Hereafter

Hereafter

About the Project

Hereafter: Tomorrow begins today is the brand identity for the design and visual communication speculative design showcase. Speculative design focuses on hypothetical futures using โ€œwhat ifโ€ questions to explore the future impacts of our society, new technology, and environment. The branding is bold, striking, and vibrant, focusing on the hope that the future can bring. The theme of duality is strongly portrayed throughout the brand, down to the name and tagline. Hereafter represents the here or present, contrasting with the after or the future, recognizing that our future starts today

Color Palette

Our color palette was created by Nate Saunderson.

The color palette is bold and vibrant, but offers contrast with more neutral and dark shades, reflecting the duality between the hopeful and sometimes tragic futures each designer explored within their project. It reflects the possibilities of the future, regardless of outcome, but knowing that we can make an impact.

Iconography and Visuals

Houa Vang created the first 9, Nat Starks created the 10th, and I created the latter half.

The iconography and visuals reflect duality through circles being a shape more often found in nature, but has been perfected, showing the contrast between the organic and the structured, and fingerprints representing our influence on our world, and leaving our mark.

Typography

Primary: Title and Header font

Accent: Tagline font

Body: Body copy font

The typography is based on the font used in our logo, choosing fonts that contrast and complement our primary font while allowing it to be the bold font that takes center stage, which perfectly embodies the concept of duality and opposing elements.

Logo

Ethan Avery created our two logos and wordmark.

The logo and our branding are based on the concept of duality and the contrast between the present (here) and the future (after). Here is the current state of our society, technology, and environment, reflecting the world we live in. After is the abstract and unknown future that awaits with many possibilities and ways it can shape our world and life as we know it.
