Silent Prima Donna is the first book in the Replacement series, following a woman married into a mafia family. The book is a tragic, haunting, heartbreaking, and gritty story that reflects the bleak reality of the four characters: the mob boss, the wife, and the two children, who each go through their own trouble and turmoil. The cover is the window to the book’s soul. All elements together create a statement and draw the reader to follow the characters and their story as they grow and change, offering hope to survivors of domestic violence and toxic relationships.
Visual System

Typography

Primary: Title Font

Secondary: Header and Author’s Name
Imagery

The imagery was created through art direction and a photoshoot to produce original artwork that reflects the themes and heavy emotions portrayed in the book.
Cover Design
Cover Design Development
As the design was developed and test printed, the design morphed and changed to explore different ways to further integrate white lace

The cover reflects the same level of drama and heartbreak through imagery, typography, and color palette. The heart, the blood, and the gore of the cover juxtapose with the flowers representing life and death, and offer a small glimmer of hope. The rest of the design follows in the main imagery’s tragic footsteps of blood and horror. The cover hopes to elicit the same feel the reader gets while reading at the edge of their seat, which shows the level of research taken from interviews with the author to reading the book.
Interior Illustrations
The design story continues with the perspective shifts. To aid in the shifts, each character has an illustration reflecting their personalities and overarching stories across each book, in addition to matching fonts. These illustrations were also informed through reading the book and having a glance at future books.
